Ryman
Auditorium
The Ryman
Auditorium, built in 1892, was recently designated a
National Historic Landmark. The former home of the Grand Ole
Opry, the Ryman Auditorium was renovated and re-opened in
1994 for concerts and musical productions. Recent concert
performers have included Ricky Skaggs, Bruce Springsteen,
Coldplay, The Pretenders, Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson,
Alison Krauss, and Elvis Costello. The Ryman Auditorium has
consistently received local awards as a venue for live music
performances, and in January 2001, CitySearch editors listed
the Ryman Auditorium among the top five concert venues in
the United States for the second year in a row.
Since its
reopening, the Ryman Auditorium has featured musicals
produced by the Company such as Always . . . Patsy Cline,
Lost Highway: The Music & Legend of Hank Williams, and Bye
Bye Love: The Everly Brothers Musical. In the Fall of 2002,
the Ryman Auditorium premiered Stand By Your Man: The Tammy
Wynette Story, a new bio-musical based on the life of
country music legend Tammy Wynette. The Grand Ole Opry
returns to the Ryman Auditorium periodically, most recently
from November 2003 to February 2004.
