Gaylord Chula Vista: A Premier Destination for Visitors &
Residents

At full
build out, Gaylord Chula Vista will be a 2,000-room hotel
and convention center with state-of-the-art meeting space
including large ballrooms, flexible breakout space and
exhibition hall space. The contiguous exhibit hall and flex
space will be capped at 200,000 square feet to avoid overlap
with the San Diego Convention Center, while attracting new
small and medium size conventions to our region.
This
property will provide extensive amenities, including
multiple restaurants, an entertainment night club, a full
service spa and fitness facility, numerous retail shops, and
resort swimming pools.
Gaylord
Chula Vista will be set on the Chula Vista Bayfront,
surrounded by marinas, restaurants, shops, wildlife refuges,
outdoor recreation opportunities, and a signature public
park.
Economic Benefits to Chula Vista and Beyond
Construction Phase
We expect
the economic output impact of this project during the
construction and development phase to be
approximately
$1.3 billion,
with nearly
10,000 jobs
and
payroll impacts of
$456 million
(direct
and indirect effects).*
Operational Phase
The
economic impacts for each year after the hotel and
convention center are open are estimated to be approximately
$383 million
beginning in 2013. Ultimately, Gaylord Chula Vista will
provide nearly
3,000 permanent jobs
both
inside and outside the hotel, with payroll impacts of
$125 million annually.
The
project will also generate more than
$14 million in new local tax revenues annually
that will
benefit Chula Vista and the San Diego region, including
property taxes, tourist occupancy taxes, sales taxes and
utility and business taxes.
The plan
for the first phase of the Chula Vista Bayfront development,
which includes the Gaylord Hotel and Convention Center,
calls for approximately a $200 million investment in
infrastructure, including utilities, roads, the Signature
Park expansion and pedestrian streetscapes.
The City of Chula Vista and the Unified Port of San Diego
will not use any existing General Fund dollars on the
project.
Bonds issued by the City of Chula Vista to support the
development of the hotel and convention center and build
needed roads and infrastructure will be repaid with future
tax dollars generated exclusively from the Bayfront
project. In future years, the City’s investment in Gaylord
Chula Vista will be returned many times over, to the benefit
of all Chula Vista residents.
