GRAPEVINE, TX (May 21, 2008) - While the temperature and gasoline prices rise this summer, Gaylord Texan Resort is offering local families world-class vacation experiences in their own backyard with its annual SummerFest event. Inside the luxury resort’s glass-covered atriums, kept at a comfortable 72 degrees all summer long, visitors will discover four-and-a-half acres full of decorated “firefly inspired” gardens, live entertainment, dining, and shopping for those of all ages to enjoy.

Some of the exciting events and activities will include Indoor Friday Night Firework Shows, Glass Cactus “Summer Nights” Concert Series, “Taste of the Texan” Chef Stations, Junior Chefs Camp for Kids, Outdoor Pool Parties, Wine & Cheese Pairings, Murder Mystery Dinners, and Strolling Entertainment.

Adding to the fun, guests of Gaylord Texan who stay for more two or more consecutive nights with its SummerFest Room Package will receive $50 cash at check-in. Beginning at $199 per night, the package includes luxury resort room accommodations, breakfast for two adults and two children in Riverwalk Café, resort fee, and self-parking.

STROLLING ENTERTAINMENT

JUNIOR CHEF’S CAMP
Location: Gaylord Texan’s Ama Lur restaurant
Date & Time: Saturdays (June 14, June 28, July 12, July 19,
August 2, August 16, August 30) from 9:00am - Noon
Ages: 8 – 16 years old
Cost: $90 per child, per class. Price includes lunch for two adults, as well as an apron, chefs hat, and recipe cards for the Junior Chef. Each additional child in the same family is $45 per class.

Designed to introduce basic kitchen techniques and provide a hands-on opportunity to prepare popular and simple recipes, young aspiring culinary students will learn the secrets of the profession from Gaylord Texan’s Executive Chefs. Each Junior Chef will rotate throughout interactive kitchen stations learning techniques on table setting, serving styles and hands-on cooking specifics. At the program’s conclusion, parents will be invited back to dine in Ama Lur for a three-course luncheon, hosted and served by their very own “Junior Chef.”
