Peter J. Weien,
vice president and hotel manager of Gaylord Opryland® Resort
& Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee, joined Gaylord
Entertainment as the Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice
President of ResortQuest® in 2004. While at ResortQuest, he
successfully integrated 42 disparate locations under one
common brand as well as established a standard for providing
operational, service and business practices. By recruiting a
high-caliber team, he was able to foster the customer
service culture for results that included a two-year, $20
million revenue increase. Because of his attention to detail
and his proven results, Weien was promoted to his current
role in 2007.
Before his
Gaylord career, Weien worked for Harrah's Entertainment in
Las Vegas and in Memphis, Tennessee, for 12 years. There, he
served as the general manager of two Harrah's casinos and
previous to that, the senior vice president, vice president
of corporate development and corporate director of gaming
development. He also served as the senior director for the
development of market planning for The Promus Companies,
Inc. in Memphis and as a consultant to the Management
Advisory Services for Laventhol and Horwath, where he gained
extensive experience in managing hotels and resorts,
restaurants and retail outlets.
Weien, a
native of Ohio, was a competitive swimmer while growing up.
Needing a job with flexible hours to accommodate his
training, he worked in local restaurants and hotels, and it
was during this time that he fell in love with the
hospitality industry because of his ability to make
interactions with customers and guests fun and positive
experiences. This service-first attitude is seen in his
vision for the resort: He strives to provide STARS with a
supportive environment where they look forward to coming to
work, and in turn, this encourages STARS to provide flawless
customer service. Weien also takes on the responsibility of
developing STARS to take full advantage of the professional
and personal advancement opportunities within the resort and
the company.
Weien received
his bachelor's degree in hotel and restaurant management
from Michigan State University. He and his wife of nearly
two decades, Katie, have one son, Sam, and a beagle named
Buster. When he is not working, he likes biking, watching
movies, spending time at the pool with his family and
vacationing at some of the nation's most-loved sites. Weien
enjoys Vanderbilt University sports, Tennessee Titans
football and Nashville Predators hockey, and he is his
athletic son's number-one fan. |
